Roma, 3 mag. (Apcom) - E' morto in ospedale a Rio de Janeiro dopo una lunga malattia il famoso regista teatrale, drammaturgo e saggista brasiliano Augusto Boal. Aveva 78 anni. E' nella storia del teatro per aver dato vita negli anni Sessanta al "teatro degli oppressi". Per il suo impegno politico fu costretto all'esilio negli anni della dittatura militare. Negli anni Settanta il cantautore Chico Buarque, anche lui in esilio, compose la canzone in forma di lettera "Meu caro amigo" proprio in omaggio a Boal.

Falleció el autor Augusto Boal De la Redacción de El Litoral El dramaturgo brasileño Augusto Boal, fundador de la corriente “teatro del oprimido”, murió a los 78 años de edad en Brasil, víctima de insuficiencia respiratoria, informaron medios locales. El también ensayista y director teatral, quien fuera nominado en marzo de este año como embajador mundial del teatro por la Unesco y candidato al Nobel de la Paz en 2008, padecía de leucemia y estaba internado en el Centro de Tratamiento Intensivo del Hospital Samaritano, en el barrio carioca de Botafogo, informó la agencia alemana DPA. Boal, nacido en marzo de 1931, es considerado uno de los más importantes dramaturgos brasileños. Con su “Teatro del Oprimido”, corriente teatral en la que se busca involucrar al espectador de manera activa con el espectáculo, el dramaturgo pretendía “que las personas se inserten en la sociedad”. “Boal fue uno de los creadores del teatro moderno brasileño” manifestó el poeta Ferreira Gullart, citado por el portal G1 de la Red Globo. “Boal fue un compañero, un muy buen amigo, y una figura humana admirable”. Exiliado en Estados Unidos en 1953, volvió a Brasil dos años después donde asumió la dirección artística del Teatro de Arena de So Paulo. Entre sus obras se encuentran “JaneSpitfire” o la sambópera sobre la ópera “Carmen”. Al celebrarse el pasado 27 de marzo el Día Mundial del Teatro, Boal escribió una carta donde dejó plasmada su idea de lo que debe ser el teatro. “Una de las principales funciones de nuestro arte es hacer conscientes esos espectáculos de la vida diaria donde los actores son los propios espectadores y el escenario es la platea y la platea, escenario”, dijo Boal. “Somos todos artistas: haciendo teatro, aprendemos a ver aquello que resalta a los ojos, pero que somos incapaces de ver al estar tan habituados a mirarlo. Lo que nos es familiar se convierte en invisible: hacer teatro, al contrario, ilumina el escenario de nuestra vida cotidiana”, agregó.

In memoria di Augusto Boal
E’ morto pochi giorni fa a Rio de Janeiro Augusto Boal, drammaturgo, regista, creatore del metodo denominato Teatro dell’Oppresso. Boal era stato nominato a marzo ambasciatore dell’Unesco per il teatro e aveva aperto l’incontro con una dichiarazione sul teatro come strumento di liberazione umana:
<Quando guardiamo oltre le apparenze, noi vediamo oppressori e oppressi; in tutte le società, gruppi etnici, generi, classi sociali e caste; noi viviamo in un mondo iniquo e crudele. Noi dobbiamo creare un altro mondo perché sappiamo che è possibile. Ma sta a noi costruire quest’altro mondo, con le nostre mani e agendo sul palco e nella nostra stessa vita. Noi tutti siamo attori: essere cittadino non è semplicemente vivere nella società, è cambiarla>
Attivo fino a fine aprile, arriva inaspettata la sua morte che chiude un suo ciclo di attività iniziato nel lontano 1956. L’allora giovanissimo Boal viene chiamato infatti a dirigere il Teatro Arena di San Paolo (Brasile), teatro a cui darà con altri coetanei una svolta in senso radicale e popolare, tanto che nel 1971 viene arrestato dalla giunta militare per il suo impegno teatral-politico e torturato, quindi rilasciato su pressioni internazionali ed espulso in Argentina e da qui in altri paesi. Sarà una svolta della sua vita che lo porterà a contatto con le oppressioni del mondo occidentale e diffonderà il suo metodo in tutto il mondo. Nel 1979 è esule a Parigi dove fonda il Centre Théatre de l’Opprimé e inventa nuove tecniche per affrontare le oppressioni interiorizzate, quelle caratteristiche del mondo occidentale. Torna nel 1986 in Brasile, fonda il Centro do Teatro do Oprimido a Rio de Janeiro, quindi partecipa casualmente a una campagna elettorale del PT di Lula e viene eletto nel consiglio comunale di Rio. Qui inventa il Teatro-Legislativo, ovvero un modo per far esprimere gruppi di cittadini portatori di un problema, far loro trovare le soluzioni al problema stesso e presentarle poi in Consiglio comunale. La chiama “democrazia transitiva”. Continua a girare per il mondo tra stage e festival dove migliaia di persone apprendono il suo metodo, lo arricchiscono, lo diffondono a loro volta. L’ultima sua ricerca era chiamata l’”Estetica dell’oppresso”, dove affiancava al teatro altre arti, con lo scopo sempre di far esprimere i senza voce, chi ha meno potere, di far dire la loro parola sul mondo come direbbe il suo conterraneo Paulo Freire.
Milioni di persone nel mondo hanno ormai conosciuto, visto, praticato, letto, sperimentato il suo metodo, appropriandosene e sviluppandolo in tanti settori. Come amava ripetere il Teatro dell’Oppresso si pone gli scopi di capire e trasformare il mondo, essendo a cavallo di arte, terapia, politica, azione sociale, educazione. Sta a noi rimasti continuare la strada…

di Daniele Barbieri “Tutto il teatro è necessariamente politico; chi cerca di separare teatro e
politica vuole indurci in errore… per ragioni politiche”: è la teoria e
soprattutto la prassi del brasiliano Augusto Boal, una vita contro le dittature
e perché sulla scena teatrale cadano le barriere fra attori e spettatori.
Boal è morto sabato, a 78 anni. Arrestato e torturato in Brasile, nel 1971
fugge: dopo un lungo esilio (in Argentina e poi in Europa) rientra nel suo
Paese alla caduta della dittatura: dal ’92 al ’96 è nel consiglio comunale di
Rio de Janeiro dove perfeziona il “teatro legislativo”, variante del suo
impegno social-teatrale con il pubblico che mette in scena …. le leggi.
Gli animatori raccolgono i problemi delle persone presenti e con tecniche
teatrali li elaborano davanti a tutti, così ognuno diventa “spett-attore” per
trasformarli in proposte di legge; quello che poi viene deciso a livello politico
torna, in forma di teatro, alla gente in un circolo continuo. Una democrazia
“transitiva”, la coscientizzazione per usare la famosa formula di Paulo Freire,
altro brasiliano considerato sovversivo da ogni regime autoritario del pianeta.
Non a caso la creatura più famosa, di Boal è il “teatro degli oppressi” -
diffuso oggi in tutto il mondo - proprio come Freire elabora una pedagogia
contro l’oppressione.
Freire ricorda che la relazione umana è dialogo e invece siamo costretti ad
ascoltare i monologhi del potere. In teatro si corre lo stesso rischio, sostiene
Boal che dunque negli anni ’60 inizia a ribaltare la struttura classica della
scena per rendere protagonista il pubblico. Un ulteriore passo avanti avviene
quando Boal è già in esilio: nel 1973 in Perù, mentre usa il teatro come forma
di alfabetizzazione, una donna del pubblico contesta l’attrice e sale sul palco
per mostrarle cosa dovrebbe fare. Da allora Boal usa questo metodo in modo
diretto e anche “invisibile” cioè coinvolgendo – in una piazza, dentro un
mercato, in una scuola, in un ospedale - un pubblico non preavvisato e
chiedendo a ogni persona di offrire la sua soluzione. Nel teatro-forum a
esempio prima si presenta lo spettacolo (molto breve, di solito una situazione
di vita concreta) con un finale chiuso. Poi con l’aiuto di un jolly – cioè di un
conduttore – il pubblico è stimolato ad aiutare i protagonisti, a cercare altre
soluzioni o magari raccontare storie più importanti. E’ come se la
provocazione contro il teatro “borghese” di Pirandello nei
“Sei personaggi in cerca d’autore” irrompesse ogni giorno nella scena e fuori
di essa: teatro e politica insieme, dialogo, pedagogia, una continua lotta alla
“paura della libertà” (come la chiamò Freire), al poliziotto più spietato, quello
– dice Boal – che abbiamo dentro il nostro cervello.
Un esempio aiuta a capire; lo riprendo da un libro, “Arte come Resistenza”
che sarà pubblicato in autunno dalla Emi. La compagnia belga
“Theatre du Public” porta in Palestina uno spettacolo dove l’amore fra due
emigrati - il palestinese Rashid e la siciliana Graziella – viene ostacolato
da tutti (per motivi religiosi e non solo) concludendosi in tragedia.
E’ una vicenda realmente accaduta in Belgio ma che “Theatre du Public”
ha riproposto, anche in Palestina, con le tecniche di Boal, invitando dunque
chi assiste a diventare protagonista, a vivere le scelte dei protagonisti, a
verificare se esiste una via d’uscita.
Sono molti in Italia i gruppi che si rifanno a Boal: il più attivo è il “teatro jolly”
(su www.giollicoop.it si possono vedere le loro attività). In italiano sono stati
tradotti vari suoi testi: “Il teatro degli oppressi” (Feltrinelli), “Il poliziotto e la
maschera” e “Racconti della nostra America” (entrambi La meridiana). Nella
premessa a queste storie vere - “la Nuestra America che si oppone
all’America con la K” - che Boal ha rielaborato c’è anche don Evencio:
le vecchiette della chiesa gli propongono di riunirsi per studiare a fondo la vita
di suor Giovanna ma il prete ha un’altra idea… e così “lunedì, alle 6 di sera”
si farà una processione molto particolare, quella di “Nostra signora degli
oppressi”.

O oprimido no palco da vida O que há de mais coincidente entre Paulo Freire e Augusto Boal não é a data de morte nem a história política de ambos que, perigosos ao estado militar ditatorial, obrigou-os a exilarem-se por anos. O que mais aproxima esses dois notáveis brasileiros também não foram os inúmeros prêmios que receberam por suas atividades intelectuais nem as indicações de ambos ao nobel da paz. A semelhança maior entre Freire e Boal está na profunda convicção que os fizeram lutar incansavelmente por toda a vida: a causa dos oprimidos. Exatamente no dia em que se completaram 12 anos de falecimento de Paulo Freire (02 de maio), Augusto Boal nos deixou. Mas, a exemplo de nosso maior educador, o fundador do Teatro do Oprimido deixou-nos também um legado de esperança. Sua arte nunca foi mera alegoria da vida ou um sentido em si mesmo. Para Boal, a Estética do Oprimido é, antes de tudo, uma ferramenta de intervenção social. Em uma de suas últimas falas públicas, no mês de março deste ano, por ocasião da cerimônia em que foi nomeado embaixador do teatro pela Unesco, Boal afirmou que "cidadão não é aquele que vive em sociedade, mas, aquele que a transforma". Disse também que "temos a obrigação de inventar outro mundo porque sabemos que outro mundo é possível". Refletir sobre a biografia de Boal, mesmo num momento tão sofrido, sobretudo para as pessoas mais próximas de seu convívio, é celebrar a vida. É insistir no caminho da mudança a partir e com os mais sofridos. Boal, com certeza, é um desses homens imprescindíveis de que falava Bertolt Brecht. Suas raízes, que já penetraram terras de todos os continentes com tantos núcleos do Teatro do Oprimido espalhados pelo mundo, são a prova social da radicalidade de sua arte profundamente humana e, por isso mesmo, revolucionária. Aos parentes, amigos, amigas e admiradores de Augusto Boal, manifestamos nossas condolências e expressamos a certeza de que sua presença se eternizará tanto na memória quanto nas práticas sociais que se inspiram em sua valiosa obra.
The oppressed in the stage of life The biggest coincidence between Paulo Freire and Augusto Boal it's neither the date of their death nor the political history that both shared and made them dangerous for the military dictatorship, which expelled both of them of the country for years. What brings these two notable Brazilians together the most was not also the countless number of prizes they received for their intellectual activities nor the Nobel Prize nomination. Hope I did not full filled your email box. Sorry if happened... Today is a special day for all of us in the Centre of Theatre of the Oppressed. For me Boal´s song is an really nice example and inspiration for the future of TO. We made a song in Brazil and share it with the world trough youtube. After that different people from several places made translations for their languages. From these translations, other people recorded it. Now we have several versions to sing. We were working in the same project even far way from each other. I can imagine the wonderful Boal´s smile because this process of production. Thanks for everybody.
